Itamaracá Castle(2006)

Itamaracá Castle(2006)

Project completed and copied in 2012, with elevations elaborated in 2018

Itamaracá Castle is an example of classic French architecture, with rigid volumetry, little diversified and perfectly symmetrical. The project was developed from a sketch started at the end of 2006, which showed a game of straight volumes interspersed with smooth concave and convex curves. When completing it, I was inspired by the Hospital Matarazzo, in São Paulo, with its elegant architecture, despite its extreme simplicity. At that time, the project had curved bay-windows, just like the ones in the hospital. But, when drawing up its elevations, I ended up being inspired by a French mansion that was the backdrop for the recently launched Scandal perfume ad, whose architecture was also rigid and sober. So I abandoned the idea of extreme simplicity and did away with bay windows. The result is a building with simple ornamentation and a unique Doric cornice that is featured in this portfolio. The pool was positioned on the front façade, also fulfilling the role of a fountain or an ornamental lake. It is a very graceful, elegant and refined castle.
